Commodore 64 Emulator in Flash

Commodore 64 Emulator in Flash

SUMMARY: Relive the glory days of the Commodore 64 computer with this online emulator written completely in Flash.

Those of you not still in high school may remember the Commodore 64. Ah yes, when incredible graphics could be rendered with a huge total of 16 colors, when 38911 bytes were all you needed to create your Basic programs, and when beautiful music was made with three distinct sounds playing simultaneously. Ah, the good old days...

If you'd like to relive how fun computers used to be, consider visiting the Open Source Flash Project. There you can find an online Commodore 64 written completely in Flash. It's not perfect; as of July 29, 2006, sprites needed a little work, but it's a start. You can even play a few old games such as "Galaga" and "Matrix". And no, this "Matrix" was created WAY before "Mr. Anderson"...

Type in the following commands into the Commodore 64 emulator to turn the screen completely black:

POKE 53280,0
POKE 53281,0

(And yes, I do remember those commands. Scary..)

Write Hello, World! on the screen 5 times

10 FOR C = 1 TO 5
20 PRINT "HELLO, WORLD!"
30 NEXT
RUN

Do you REALLY remember the Commodore 64? If so, you'll realize why you can't enter quotes by pressing SHIFT and apostrophe on your keyboard. It's not a bug in the Flash emulator. You have to press SHIFT+2 to get quotes on a Commodore 64 keyboard.

See the four suits in a card game - in color:

CONTROL+1 SHIFT+A CONTROL+3 SHIFT+S CONTROL+1 SHIFT+X CONTROL+3 SHIFT+Z
